I will be presenting the following motion at full council this coming Thursday:

Following recent cuts to bus services by First Bus and ongoing issues with many bus services in the county, we have reached a point where we as a council are a long way from meeting our objective, as set out in our Integrated Transport Policy, of “maximising accessibility, choice and journey opportunities” and providing “services to access key employment, health, education, retail and leisure” services.

This Council calls on its Cabinet to review the extent of under-achievement of the current policy to support access to key services, especially for residents without access to their own transport, and to consider what actions should be taken when other public transport providers fail to deliver such services.

This motion is supported by both the Green Party and Liberal Democrats. I’m hopeful that it will gain cross-party support on Thursday.
